Women's economic opportunity

Women entrepreneurs are vital to reducing poverty and driving economic growth.  Launched in 2005, the ExxonMobil Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative helps women in developing countries fulfill their economic potential and drive economic and social change in their communities. Watch a video developed for the Clinton Global Initiative.

Research demonstrates that investing in opportunities for women delivers high returns in terms of economic and social development, including lower infant and child mortality rates, disease prevention, higher income and productivity rates, and broader economic growth.

ExxonMobil is focused on three key strategies to improve women’s economic opportunities globally: build the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs, reduce barriers to women’s economic participation and help identify and deploy technologies for women.

ExxonMobil is proud to work with a range of partners including community-based organizations, global NGOs, universities and government agencies to increase economic opportunities for women in developing countries.

In 2009, ExxonMobil announced plans to launch a new initiative that will help identify and deploy technologies that can improve quality of life and enable women in developing countries to participate more fully in income-generating activities.
