Maths is fun with new equipment

Fawley (14 March 2007) -- A new data projector, which helps engage secondary school children during maths lessons, has been installed at one New Forest School.

The maths department at Hardley School has taken delivery of the new computer-linked equipment, which was bought with a grant from Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley. The science department has also bought five video cameras to make it easier to demonstrate practical experiments, with the grant of £1,000.

Head of maths, Liz Westall said: “We already have some of these projectors in the maths department and they are an excellent tool for teaching and enhancing the whole learning experience. We can demonstrate new concepts using Powerpoint presentations, as well as accessing the internet and using them for some of the more recreational maths activities.”

The ExxonMobil Link Schools Programme provides science equipment grants, assistance in improving the school environment and curriculum resources to almost 40 schools based around ExxonMobil's main areas of employment.

ExxonMobil is committed to being a good neighbour and the programme improves the links between the company and the community.
