Fawley (January 22, 2004) -- Homelessness charity 'The Society of St James' recently benefited from three fridges worth £300 thanks to a donation from ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley.
The fridges were being used whilst essential maintenance work was being completed on the Butyl Polymers unit at the refinery. Bought to keep canned drinks and chocolate cool during the two month event, they proved cheaper than hiring but became surplus to requirements at the end of the activities. It was decided that, as they were nearly new, they should be donated to a local charity.
The Society of St James, a charity providing services to homeless people in Southampton, will make good use of the fridges, which were delivered to several of their properties by two ExxonMobil employees.
Commenting on the welcome gesture, Dave Cates, fundraiser at the Society, said: "These fridges have been put straight to work, replacing old ones in the shared houses we run for formerly homeless men and women. Funds are always tight here, so we are delighted to have been chosen by ExxonMobil to be the recipient of this marvellous gesture.”
