During the years that MNS has operated, no major incident or potential incident has occurred that could have caused significant harm to the environment.
Emission discharges
MNS operations have, for the most part, operated well within regulatory requirements regarding emission discharges, such as waste, water and air. However. as a result of new and stricter produced water discharge regulations, it has been challenging to meet the regulatory performance standard (mg oil / litre) requirements. Although most of its facilities were not originally designed to meet these new strict targets, MNS has been able to improve on this situation, and reduce the risk for minor environmental incidents, by making substantial investment in, and major changes to, produced water management.
Environmental objectives
MNS is committed to continuous efforts to identify and manage the safety, health and environmental risks associated with its activities, and to improve performance throughout its operations. In particular, it seeks to: Reduce environmental risk related to discharge to sea from operations towards a zero harmful discharge level. Reduce the number of hydrocarbon leaks. Minimise flaring and reduce use of diesel power for generation. Ensure environmentally appropriate handling of waste by continued focus on waste minimisation and source separation, with a special emphasis on hazardous waste. Perform environmental monitoring of emissions to air and sea, and ensure reporting of same in accordance with regulations. Meet regulatory and permit requirements. Ensure IPPC/PPC permits in place. Prepare for phase two of CO2 Emissions Trading Scheme. Maintain environmental awareness of personnel.
