Exxon Mobil Corporation is the world's leading publicly-owned energy company and operates facilities or markets products in most of the world's countries. It is the parent company of the Esso, Mobil and ExxonMobil companies that operate in the United Kingdom.
We have an interest in nearly 50 producing offshore fields. Since first exploration in 1964 we have invested over £31.4 billion at today's prices in the UK's offshore oil and gas industry.
We operate the largest refinery in the UK, serve one million retail customers every day and produce world-leading motor oils.
ExxonMobil has supplied the UK market with gas for over 30 years. Our sales represent around 11 per cent of the gas market in the UK, which is Europe's largest user of natural gas. Most natural gas is supplied by pipeline, but now new technologies and changing markets are enabling the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) which can be transported by ship.
In the UK, ExxonMobil Chemical is one of the country's top 10 chemical companies in terms of turnover. We have manufacturing plants at Fawley near Southampton, at Fife in Scotland and at Newport in South Wales.
