Winning ways continue for ExxonMobil shipping affiliate

International Marine Transportation’s (IMT) goal of flawless environmental and safety performance received yet another boost, as the team won a prestigious award for the ninth year in a row.

The Sword of Honour is the British Safety Council’s (BSC) highest health and safety accolade and is given to companies that demonstrate excellence in the management of safety, health and environmental matters.

Only organisations that score 92 per cent or higher in the BSC’s annual assessment are considered for this special recognition – IMT scored 98.7 per cent – and an elite 40 of those are awarded the Sword.

What makes the award all the more special is that it benchmarks IMT against non-shipping companies, thus marking it as the best in any field, not just its own.

This year, the BSC audit focused on occupational health. Assessors were impressed with IMT’s continued flawless operations, its employee health initiative on board its vessels and the introduction of Passenger Vehicle Management Guidelines, which provide additional safeguards for all employees.

Also recognised was IMT’s commitment to sharing safety practices with industry counterparts and the active leadership role it plays in marine bodies that put in place enhanced procedures, regulations and industry best practices.
