Stringent safety tests for vital site equipment
Key equipment at over 1,000 shelters at ExxonMobil Chemical plants and refineries worldwide has undergone a stringent safety audit.
The shelters house analysers that provide vital process data to help the plants run efficiently. They were audited to check that they conform to the latest global practices and local regulations, as part of ExxonMobil’s commitment to site safety and the company’s Nobody Gets Hurt goal.
Seventeen analyser shelters at Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) were audited, while Fawley reviewed 12 and 35 at the chemicals plant and refinery respectively. They were evaluated against a 51-point checklist to assess the potential for the build-up of a hazardous atmosphere and to identify any necessary improvements.
Although ExxonMobil has an excellent safety record, and conducts standard checks every six months, the audit was designed to make sure that incidents occurring at other companies’ facilities could not happen at its own sites. It also ensures that ExxonMobil’s shelters around the world all meet the same high standards.
