Birmingham Airport team lands top safety award
Birmingham Airport has been named ExxonMobil Aviation’s Regional Airport of the Year in the Europe/Africa/Middle East region for its safety achievements over the past 12 months.
Having now received three consecutive internal Wings Awards, given annually to airports that have excelled in terms of safety performance, the Birmingham site is a shining example of ExxonMobil Aviation’s commitment to safety.
The performance by the 20-strong team from Redline, the company’s wholly owned refuelling subsidiary, is all the more impressive given that they have worked around significant construction activity on a new terminal, as well as a 31 per cent increase in volumes since 2007.
Birmingham’s performance has improved significantly in recent years, thanks largely to continued supervision, observation and liaison with the airport authorities.
The Loss Prevention System, which uses behaviour-based tools, analyses and assessments to reduce losses, and peer-on-peer observation have led to improvements. In addition, the active programme of management observations and training and support in how to comply fully with procedures help ensure that there is no compromise of ExxonMobil’s safety standards.
