Be bright, be safe

Fawley (9 February 2010) -- Reflective book bags which glow in car headlights are helping pre-school children to be better seen by motorists, as they walk to school on dark winter mornings.

Children at Stepping Stones Pre-School in Hardley have received the new reflective book bags, thanks to a donation of £250 from Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley.

The company made the donation to equip the children attending the pre-school with new book bags, complete with the ExxonMobil logo.

Emma Park, chair of the Stepping Stones Pre-school said: “Children choose a book to take home each day. The new book bags are also ideal for transporting letters and the many things the children make at pre-school. We would like to thank ExxxonMobil for this generous donation.”

The Stepping Stones pre-school meets every week day in Teachers Way, Hardley. There are currently 35 children between two years and nine months and school age attending the pre-school.

Carol Dunford of ExxonMobil Community Affairs said: “At the Refinery we take our responsibility as a good neighbour seriously and helping the local community is very much part of that. We place great importance on safety at all time and so we were delighted to help the pre-school with equipment which not only encourages children to look at books but also enables them to be easily seen in the dark as well.”
